It is really common for people to assume that the structure of a traditional database is what we want to replicate in a Power BI Tabular model. I’ve had so many conversations about this and getting people to understand the fundamental difference between a Database and a Tabular Model is a real challenge. Tabular initially doesn’t make sense, but once you understand how it stores your data, suddenly DAX and the visuals also make much more sense and knowing what they need makes the data shaping simpler as well.
