Weekend Work 008 – Excel in Power BI

The first step into the Power BI Ecosystem

Weekend Work 008 – Next steps within Excel

Power BI is alive and well within Excel, for many people, (and businesses) this is their introduction to Power BI and that’s not a bad thing. Across this week we’ve looked at that first step and then in Weekend Work we looked at how that extends and naturally leads you into Power BI. Excel is capable of delivering some fantastic Dashboards quickly and easily, the issues come from a lack of distribution capability and of course the prevalence of 32 bit Excel. Power BI is to all intents and purposes 64 bit only. The Analysis Services core of Power BI is also not optimised for Excel so there are challenges to overcome as this moves forward. So if it’s just a small team that needs access to the dashboard then Excel can deliver, but as the people and data volume increase you will naturally get to the point where you need to transition to Power BI. Don’t be afraid to start with Excel though, it is more familiar and it can help make the transition to Power BI simpler.
