It has taken a long time to start this blog, and a part of that has been trying to find where to place it. Geordie Intelligence and Geordie Consulting don’t make sense for it, but putting it somewhere else didn’t seem right when we played the vision against our corporate mission. Data is all around us, so various companies and governments capture much of what we do online. In the long term, our children need support to develop strategies and habits to help minimise their digital footprint.
In a world where the websites you go to and the web searches you carry out are used to build an online profile of you, all for sale to the highest bidder – only kidding; profiles are sold by 1000’s so you don’t even rate enough for someone to be interested in anything other than how they can sell products to you. Those online profiles are cross-referenced, and now, with the help of AI, they are compared against other demographics to determine if you cross a threshold that suggests a purchase is probable. The truth of data mining is it is soleless and cold-hearted. It is also the least worrying thing that personal data is used for.
Health and well-being data is already being used to adjust insurance quotes and even payouts, and this will only increase. Seemingly sensible studies and tests are already starting to come back to haunt people as they are finding they cannot get policies.
Our founder, Ross, raised his two children in a world where they needed access to computers; online safety is a topic, but only in terms of what parents are not doing or what the government is not doing. Ross took things upon himself to set things up for his children; some worked, some didn’t work, but this is about trying to avoid being an IT expert to protect your family. Let us help you to set up solutions to help your family and to keep you safe. We aim to give solutions that can help everyone and minimise family friction points.
Join us, and remember to give feedback. What is working for you, and what is not? We can move this to a new platform, or do you think it makes sense to remain as part of Geordie Intelligence?
