Excellence in Business Intelligence is about self-explaining, self-verifying content. Reports must be able to stand up for themselves, especially as we move into the modern age of Power BI where report content is explorable by the consumer. You must remain aware that your reports will no longer be consumed as flat report content instead Power BI (and other modern BI Tools) promote a 3D approach, data can be explored, through filtering, QnA or even self-reporting. The impact of this has been immediate, questions can be answered immediately in a meeting by adding a filter or even just clicking a button, there is also no way of “hiding” bad data. When your customer has a chance to see their data often before you, it has to be clear what inferences can and cannot be drawn from it. Early in the video I shared a screen shot of a Dataset in my world. I get maybe one question a month about it because we have spent the time to put in place validation and explanation.
In Dataset 006 we’re going to really explore the concepts covered here and start to move on from COVID-19…
