Power BI’s not so dirty secret

When this feature first came out in 2018 it was a complete game changer. It wasn’t until 2019 when data set sharing became a thing and then the latest change came with how your data sets are presented in the Query Editor browser.
This feature is completely hidden from people when they first start with Power BI, most people will start with Power BI Desktop and an Excel spreadsheet or maybe a database source, then they’ll build a “Dashboard”. I say this because that’s the most common conversation I have with people when they first start… “[insert job title here] wants us to use Power BI to build a better Dashboard than this one” There is no shame in that, after all, until you have something in the Power BI Server you cannot connect to it as a data source. Everyone who starts using it (don’t just watch my video, give it a try), I suddenly see their eyes light up.
