Premium Per User and the Excel changes were definitely the Power BI highlights of the conference.
Premium Per User gives you access to Paginated Reports and a much higher refresh frequency (if you think you really need that without switching to Direct Query). You also get access to the pre-packaged ML components (AutoML, Impact Analysis and other Cognitive Services). Well worth the $20 price tag. Still, this is a high cost for read-only access. I guess the true benefit value of this will only become clear for SME’s in the coming months.
Excel is the Parent of BI (my son is always telling me to remove Gender). It is also the bane of Power BI (and other analytics engines) with the constant request of “Can I download that into Excel?” The tools being rolled out by Microsoft remove the risks posed by that as the data remains largely remote – aggregation data is download to Excel. Satya Nadella talked about Trust by Design, and this is very much a Trust step, the data in Excel will always be the latest version and secure.
