Power BI – Bias in Analytics

The reason we took a few weeks to look at Bias was that it is vital for any Analyst to be aware of their bias and for them to take steps to avoid confirming their own bias too easily. There is no reason why your assumptions cannot be right, just make sure you properly test your hypothesis.

The hope is that the lessons from the previous weeks have left you with a clear understanding that bias has its own momentum and like a runaway train it can lead to disaster if left unchecked. So make sure you think about the meaning of your visuals and what they are saying, does the data speak for itself or are you having to “encourage” things? Finally, remember that nothing in the real world is set in stone, so if you don’t embed good principals in the first place you risk drift (that will, in turn, be exacerbated by the momentum of your bias.
